1. Immerse the reagent area of the strip in the urine specimen and remove it quickly. Begin timing if you are reading visually.
   

2. To remove excess urine, rub the strip's edge against the rim of the container. Place the strips on a paper towel, reagent areas up.

3. Hold the URS-4B Urine Test Strip horizontally and in good light, compare the reagent areas on the strip to the corresponding color chart on the bottle label at the times specified. Hold the strips close to the color blocks and carefully match them. Make a note of the outcome. Color changes that occur after 2 minutes have no diagnostic value. When reading with an instrument, carefully follow the directions in the instrument's operating manual. At a predetermined time, the instrument will automatically read each reagent area.

4. Strips should be discarded with laboratory waste. Do not flush the toilet.

Take URS-4B Urine Test Strip out of the bottle and compare it to the color blocks on the color chart. Except for specific gravity and pH, the strip is unusable if the color of the reagent area is darker than the lowest block on the chart. Before using or discarding the bottle, discard the strip and check all strips in the bottle. When testing a new bottle, use two strips to test known negative and positive specimens or controls. The use of water as a negative control is not recommended.
