What is the general reason for hemoglobin deviation from normal value?

Dec 21, 2022Leave a message

Hemoglobin (Hb), commonly known as hemoglobin, is a protein present in red blood cells that makes blood red. It can transport oxygen to the organs and tissues of the human body and transport carbon dioxide from the organs and tissues back to the lungs for gas exchange. It serves as a routine blood test

It is one of the important indicators in the blood test, which can not only reflect the ability of the human body to generate red blood cells, but also be used to assist in the diagnosis of some blood diseases.

normal value

The normal value of hemoglobin varies among different groups of people. For example, the normal range of adult males is 120-160g/L, that of adult females is 110-150g/L, and that of newborns is 170-200g/L.

But in fact, because the detection methods and instruments used by various medical institutions are different, the range of normal values measured is also different. Therefore, we will find that the normal range given by different hospitals in real life will also be different.

When the hemoglobin decreases, it is generally considered that anemia has occurred, and the cause of anemia needs to be clarified in time; when the hemoglobin and red blood cell count in the blood are significantly higher than the normal value, it can be considered that the red blood cell and hemoglobin increase.

Therefore, since there are many factors that cause abnormal hemoglobin, the doctor will first ask the patient’s basic information and medical history in detail to determine whether the abnormal hemoglobin is caused by physiological factors such as plateau environment, smoking, pregnancy, menstruation, and blood donation. If it is excluded, the etiology should be further combined with the results of laboratory and imaging studies.

There are many reasons for the high hemoglobin. When the hemoglobin is significantly higher than 10% of the normal value, polycythemia is suspected.
