According to the 2022 Global TB study, an estimated 10.6 million people would be diagnosed with TB in 2021, a 4.5 percent increase from the previous year.

Since 2000, the number of new TB cases has decreased by an average of 2% every year.

According to a World Health Organization research, TB-related fatalities will increase for the second consecutive year to 1.6 million in 2021. (WHO). In 2020, around 1.3 million TB-related fatalities were recorded.

The burden of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) grew by 3% between 2020 and 2021, with 450,000 new cases of rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB) in 2021.

According to WHO, this is the first time in many years that a rise in the number of people falling ill with TB and drug-resistant TB has been observed.

According to the WHO, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 would disrupt several services, including TB care, but its impact on the TB response will be very severe.

According to the report, persistent wars in Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East have aggravated the situation for vulnerable communities.

TB, which primarily affects the lungs, spreads via airborne droplets. It might be latent for many years before causing health problems and is difficult to detect.

According to the Treatment Action Group and Stop TB Partnership's 2021 report, total global funding for TB research was $915 million in 2020, far short of the $2 billion objective established by the UN in 2018.

According to the 2022 Global TB report, global investment on basic TB services fell from $6 billion in 2019 to $5.4 billion in 2021, falling short of the global target of $13 billion.

According to WHO, decreases in the reported number of patients diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) indicate that the number of people with undiagnosed and untreated TB has increased.

This causes an increase in the number of TB deaths and community transmission of infection, followed by an increase in the number of people with TB.

According to the report, the number of persons receiving treatment for RR-TB and multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) decreased between 2019 and 2020.

In 2021, the reported number of persons starting treatment for RR-TB was 161 746, accounting for only roughly one-third of those in need.
