New tests can detect Covid-19 as well as flu A/B at the same time.

Some tests require only one sample to screen for all three disorders, whilst others require a sample for Covid-19 and another for flu.

Operation:

1. The tests look for antigens, specifically the nucleocapsid (N) protein of each of the three viruses, in our mucous membrane.

2. The sample port is located at the base of the test, and it receives the mucous membrane sample.

As a result, the expert advises that those who are exhibiting symptoms consistent with both illnesses take simple precautions to avoid spreading the illness to others, especially the elderly and those with immune system issues, who are most at risk of being admitted to the hospital or passing away from Covid-19 or the flu.

As of right now, there is no indication that Covid-19 or the flu will be more severe than in prior waves, when hospitalisation and death rates were significantly lower than in the early phases of the pandemic. Transmission rates are expected to be high if the Omicron variety behaves in the same manner as it has in the past, but the impact on public healthcare systems won't be as severe as it was in 2020 and 2021.

With the use of the new tests, it is now able to identify whether Covid-19 or the flu is to blame for these symptoms. According to Roger Paredes, head of the infectious diseases division at the Hospital Trias I Pujol in Badalona, Catalonia, this could be significant for older patients or those with immune deficiencies, who can proceed with one course of treatment or another depending on the illness. This is important beyond just being interesting. The rest of the population should take the same precautions in both situations to prevent spreading the disease, especially when it comes to the most vulnerable.
